The West Virginia resolution is identical to a model adopted by the American Legislative Exchange Council in September 2015.
The resolution was introduced by Sen. Robert Karnes, R-Upshur, and co-sponsored by 10 other members of the GOP.
In a similar resolution last year, the convention would have been called to amend the U.S. Constitution to require a balanced federal budget.
Thirty-four states would have to agree to the same language to call the convention to propose amendments, which must then be ratified by three-fourths (38) of the states.
