West Virginia News – After previously considering a bill that would have made significant changes to the Hope Scholarship, the West Virginia House of Delegates Committee on Finance advanced a measure Thursday that would require the program’s payments be distributed to recipients quarterly.

Under the proposal, students would receive payments on Aug. 15, Oct. 15, Jan. 15 and April 15, replacing the current Aug.15 and Jan. 15 schedule.
Committee counsel said the change affects only timing, leaving the $5,250 annual cap, out-of-state expenditures and program eligibility rules unchanged. The adjustment could also generate minor accounting savings for the state.
