West Virginia News – The West Virginia Center on Budget & Policy is urging Congress to extend enhanced premium tax credits (PTCs) past the end of the year, warning that tens of thousands of residents will face drastic health insurance cost increases without action.

These Affordable Care Act premium subsidies, implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, have helped make health coverage affordable for millions of Americans. However, they are scheduled to sunset on Dec. 31, threatening a major increase in premiums for those who purchase plans through the ACA Marketplace.

“Time is dwindling in the legislative calendar for Congress to extend the enhanced premium tax credits that help lots of folks in West Virginia afford their health coverage,” said West Virginia Center on Budget & Policy Executive Director Kelly Allen.
