In a news release, the party said the state is uniquely vulnerable because nearly 50% of West Virginia’s operating budget is derived from federal funds.
The release cited estimates from the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy that a freeze on healthcare provider tax increases could cost at least $40 million for Medicaid and that the state could face additional administrative costs of about $7.5 million to handle SNAP benefits. They also referenced warnings from the Kaiser Family Foundation that the state could lose billions in federal Medicaid funding over time.
