West Virginia Democrats Call on Morrisey to Publish Dept. of Revenue Analysis of Trump Bill

WVVA – The West Virginia Democratic Party on Monday criticized Gov. Patrick Morrisey for declining to release a taxpayer-funded analysis prepared by the West Virginia Department of Revenue that the party says examines the impact of President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” on the state’s finances.

In a news release, the party said the state is uniquely vulnerable because nearly 50% of West Virginia’s operating budget is derived from federal funds.

The release cited estimates from the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy that a freeze on healthcare provider tax increases could cost at least $40 million for Medicaid and that the state could face additional administrative costs of about $7.5 million to handle SNAP benefits. They also referenced warnings from the Kaiser Family Foundation that the state could lose billions in federal Medicaid funding over time.
