Huntington Herald-Dispatch – The Working Families Coalition extends an enthusiastic thank you to West Virginia Del. Matthew Rohrbach, R-Cabell, for his efforts to establish a state Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which would give a much-deserved break to people who work but struggle to get by on low wages. Read
Earlier this year, Del. Rohrbach took the bold step of sponsoring bipartisan legislation to establish such a tax credit and took it upon himself to educate his fellow members of the Legislature and fight for its consideration. While the policy was not ultimately realized during legislative session, Del. Rohrbach’s commitment to the over 141,000 working households throughout West Virginia (including over 2,900 right here in his district) is commendable and worthy of our heartfelt thanks.
Earned Income Tax Credits enjoy bipartisan support at both the state and federal levels, and Del. Rohrbach is working with his colleagues from both sides of the aisle to make sure the same is true in West Virginia. We look forward to working with him again next year to make this tax credit a reality. With his leadership, West Virginia can become the 27th state to have its own EITC.
The diverse coalition of organizations that compose the Working Families Coalition – from the WV Council of Churches to the WV Bankers Association to United Way of the River Cities and many others – looks forward to continuing our partnership with Del. Rohrbach next year as he leads the charge to make this tax credit a reality for thousands of deserving West Virginians.
