Public Schools Likely to Lose $21M After Thousands of Students Left for Hope Scholarship

West Virginia Watch, Times West Virginian – West Virginia’s public schools are likely to lose more than $21.6 million with students who have left the system to use the Hope Scholarship for private schools, homeschooling and more.

The data was included in a new report released Wednesday by the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy. 

Due to a number of factors, including a growing Hope Scholarship voucher program and the waning of pandemic-era funding, school districts across West Virginia are facing a funding cliff going into the 2024-25 school year, the report said.
