However, a handful of people are asking the question: “Is the West Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) equipped to handle an influx of people arrested by ICE?”

According to Gov. Morrisey’s team, 13 of the 72 people ICE has detained are serving a West Virginia sentence as of Friday. They have been in the state’s custody since before Governor Morrisey took office.
Forty-three people have been detained since January 20, 2025. Seventeen of them were arrested on local charges, and 20 were arrested for immigration charges. Another six are being held for the US Marshalls facing federal charges. Twenty people have been sent out of state as of Friday, though these numbers are subject to change as ICE continues doing more raids.
