New Inmate Death Reporting System Named After Raleigh County Man

WVVA – The 2022 death of a man inside Southern Regional Jail due to assault from corrections workers has spurred a new data reporting system in West Virginia.

The Quantez Burks Report was recently launched by the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy. Burks was secreted away, restrained and brutally beaten by workers at SRJ, resulting in his death. The officers involved were subsequently sentenced to a combined 105 years behind bars thanks to Kimberly Burk’s staunch advocacy for her son.

Burks had been convicted of no crime and was booked into SRJ the day prior to his death.
