“If we don’t keep pace in terms of the income tax rates compared to other states, we’re not going to be well positioned for the future,” Morrisey said Tuesday. “That’s why I’m pushing so hard on it and made a lot of the difficult decisions. I want to collaborate with the legislature to finish the job, and I think we can.”
Morrisey submitted a 5% income tax cut to the state legislature, but argued for a 10% tax cut the night before during his “State of the State” address. Since then, he’s promised to negotiate with the state legislature for the remaining 5%.
