Beckley Register-Herald – The last two West Virginia governors, including the newly minted one, Patrick Morrisey, who has been in the job for a little more than a turn of the screw, have had a difficult time leveling with the people of this poor state, especially when it comes to the health of the state budget. Jim Justice, now a U.S. senator, told folks way back at the start of his two, four-year terms in the governor’s office that he was going to enact initiatives that would provide the state’s economy with a rocketship ride to the stars.

As if to prove the master marketer and showman’s point, the state started racking up month after month of record revenue reserves. Proof, Big Jim would brag, that we were gaining altitude and that his plan was working just as he said it would.
And truly, it was. But Jim was keeping a secret.
