The school district released its HOPE Scholarship numbers for the 2025-26 academic year, which show a rise in the number of HOPE students this year. The numbers released at the same time the HOPE Scholarship reentered the statewide conversation in the wake of State Board of Education President Paul Hardesty making comments about the impact of the program on the public education system at a meeting of the state board on Oct. 1.
“We relish competition, if we are held to the same standards,” Marion County School Superintendent Donna Heston said. “If we are afforded the same funding sources and if it is equal across school options. We know that, regardless of the school option choice that family chooses, the standards are not the same.”
