If approved by state voters in the Nov. 8 general election, Amendment 2 would give the Legislature the authority to eliminate the personal property tax on business machinery, equipment and inventory, as well as motor vehicles.
However, as the commission heard earlier this month, that would see the state Legislature take authority over as much as 27% of the county’s tax revenue, with no solid plan from the state to replenish the 55 counties’ funds.
