Income Tax Break? Morrisey Wants 5-10% Cut OK’d in Upcoming Legislative Session

Huntington Herald-Dispatch – Gov. Patrick Morrisey on Monday detailed his plan to reduce the state’s income tax by assigning more specific percentages to his proposed reductions.

“We’re going to work closely with the legislature on these numbers, but we’re looking at at least a 5-10% [reduction],” Morrisey said during a news conference on Monday at the West Virginia State Capitol. “That is my goal, but I want to be able to work with [the Legislature] to make sure we’re implementing this the right way.”

Morrisey expects to present his plan during his State of the State address, scheduled for Jan. 14, closing the first day of the 2026 legislative session.
