House Democrat Calls West Virginia Economy ‘Irrelevant’

The Clean Electricity Performance Program would reward utilities that adopt renewable energy sources rather than fossil fuels, penalizing utilities that do not make the transition. The program was originally a provision of the social spending package that is still under negotiation among Democrats.

It will likely be dropped from the final legislation following objections from Sen. Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat who has objected to the size and scope of the spending package.
