LocalDVM – On April 2nd of 2019, the average woman in America would finally be paid as much as a man was paid in the previous 12-month year. Read/watch.
This is why Equal Pay Day is being recognized Tuesday. The West Virginia Center of Budget and Policy reports the state has the 3rd largest wage gap in the nation. Interim executive director of the West Virgina Women’s Commission says with women making roughly 74 cents for every man’s dollar, it will be hard to catch up.
“It will take us 80 years to get gender pay equity. We know now that 80 years is too long. We know that men and women should get paid the same for doing comparable work and maybe even more,” said Julie Palas, the interim executive director.
The pay gap could cost women on average $12,801 every year.
