The WVCBP’s Statement in Response to the Legislature’s Passage of SB 2033

“Lawmakers who voted to cut the personal income tax further despite dramatically slowing revenues in essence voted against much-needed investments in child welfare, health care services, public schools, and PEIA. These additional tax cuts cement the flat budgets that will make it nearly impossible for the next legislature and governor to reverse years of austerity and provide adequate public services that support children, families, and businesses and grow our economy.

Lawmakers spoke of enacting these tax cuts in contrast with painful budget shortfalls of years past, but they failed to realize that their actions this week could very well create the same difficult situation for future legislatures.”
