This week West Virginia State Treasurer Riley Moore announced that the Hope Scholarship Program has met legal requirements that will allow it to open up to all school-age children in West Virginia, starting in 2026. Currently, the scholarship is only available to students who are enrolled in or who are eligible to attend kindergarten in public schools.
The scholarship provides families with funding to home school their children or help pay for private school tuition. It’s received some criticism, with the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy reporting that the current program is expected to deplete over 20 million dollars from the public school system this school year across the state.
