CTC Update: Manchin’s Opposition Could Spell the End of Coronavirus Stimulus Control

Community News – Lacking a fourth federal stimulus check, the expanded monthly child tax relief provided much-needed relief for families. This monthly child discount expired this month, but President Joe Biden wants to extend this CTC payment for at least another year. Biden expanded the child tax credit program earlier this year as part of the US bailout plan. The expanded program offered up to $300 per month to families with children under six, and those with children aged six to 17 received up to $250 per month.

Under the extended plan, eligible families also got half of the credit in six monthly installments (from July to December), while getting the other half when filing their tax returns next year.
